Rachel Blumberg, IBCLC
Riverside Lactation, LLC
As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Rachel's focus is to give families the tools they need to succeed and be able to reach their long term breastfeeding goals. Her approach is to listen to parents and affirm their specific needs. Rachel strives to support families through their struggles respectfully and free of judgment.

After graduating with her B.S. in Foods and Nutrition, Rachel trained at Sibley Memorial Hospital, the Breastfeeding Center of Greater Washington, and Prince William Hospital. Rachel has been practicing as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2011. Rachel is a member of the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA), International Affiliation of Tongue-tie Professionals (IATP), Lactation Consultant Association of Greater Washington (LCAGW), and Loudoun Breastfeeding Coalition. Her special interests include: tongue tie/ lip tie, co-sleeping, reflux, donor milk, and toddler nursing.
Rachel struggled with breastfeeding her first child, who did not latch until 6 weeks old. Through this she experienced a roller coaster of emotions. Anxiety and failure played a huge role. Both of her children had tongue/lip ties and they were both very different experiences. Once Rachel and her babe were on the mend, she felt empowered knowing that once back to work she could truly connect with parents experiencing these same emotions. Rachel has loved being able to nurse both of her sons past the age of two. Breastfeeding has not only nourished her children, but has given each of them an everlasting bond, allowing them to feel calm and secure.
Rachel loves outpatient consultations because she is able to monitor mothers within the first weeks postpartum. Not only is she there for breastfeeding help, but she is also able to observe for postpartum depression/anxiety and discuss safe sleep. Initial visits are 1-2 hours, and follow up is 1-1.5 hours.
Rachel specializes in tongue and lip ties (and oral motor function as a whole), She has observed area providers for frenctomy. Dr. Rishita Jaju, DDS; Dr. Natasha Khurana, DDS; and Dr. Robert Bahadori, ENT are her preferred referrals for frenectomy. By creating relationships with physicians Rachel has learned the best way to assess infants, and how to prepare her clients for the surgical procedure and aftercare.
