Kim Pekin, CPM
Clinical Director & Founder
Kim Pekin has been providing midwifery care, home birth, and birth center services as a licensed midwife since 2009, has attended hundreds of births, and has trained many women who have gone on to become midwives themselves.
Kim graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1995. During her service as a La Leche League Leader, she was appointed the Coordinator of Leader Accreditation for Virginia and West Virginia in 2002. Kim is a graduate of National Midwifery Institute, a MEAC-Accredited school of midwifery. She became a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Virginia Licensed Midwife in 2009.
She co-founded NOVA Natural Birth Center (now Premier Birth Center Chantilly) and continued to serve hundreds of families there until early 2015. Since then, she has served families through her home birth practice, Birth Outside the Box, and brought Premier Birth Center to families in Winchester and the surrounding area. In 2018, she opened Premier Birth Center Chantilly in the space where NOVA Natural Birth Center had been since 2011.
In addition to her work in her midwifery practice, Kim is deeply committed to giving back to the midwifery community so that midwives can continue their work to help families who choose out of hospital births. Nationally, she serves as the Director of Professional Development on the Board of Directors for the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM), which is the organization that sets the standards for the CPM credential.
On a more local level, she was appointed by the governor to serve as Chair of the Virginia Board of Medicine’s Advisory Board on Midwifery, and is a member of the Virginia Midwives Alliance, where she previously served as Vice President.
Kim is married to Barry Pekin, Premier Birth Center Administrative Director. Together, they have 7 children, including 2 who were born at home with midwives.
