Sharon Cardenas, CPM

Staff Midwife

Premier Birth Center in Chantilly

Sharon has a profound passion regarding the transformation a woman goes through during pregnancy and the consummation of birth. This passion was introduced at the age of 12 when she was present for the birth of her nephew. Sharon’s experience during her own pregnancy and the birth of her son inspired her to want to pursue birth work. Sharon believes that having a doula and midwife present at her birth was truly a gift; a gift she felt she could share with others. Sharon feels a strong purpose in life to help and nurture pregnant women, sighting it as an honor to be present during births and a privilege to support mothers through their transformation and labor as naturally as possible.

Becoming a doula was the starting point of Sharon’s journey to become a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). She is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and holds a bachelor’s degree in both Spanish and Latin American Studies. Sharon is a La Leche League leader as well as a breastfeeding mom for nearly 7 years. Sharon is also a scholarship recipient for the Mercy in Action Distance Academics program. She received her certification as a Professional Certified Doula, from toLabor, formerly known as ALACE. In order to best serve mothers in the postpartum period, Sharon also went through training with Postpartum Support Virginia as a volunteer peer supporter as well as DONA as a postpartum doula.

Sharon completed her training at Premier Birth Center in 2017 and looks forward to continuing the work she feels so passionate about.
